We were approached with a unique project: to craft the official “Gather Round” sign. It wasn’t just about building a sign; it was about creating a symbol, a focal point for the festivities, a piece that would embody the spirit of the event. We knew this sign would stand tall, seen by thousands, and become a backdrop for countless photos and memories.
Our team poured their heart and soul into the project. We carefully selected the wood, ensuring it was both beautiful and durable, capable of withstanding the excitement of the crowds. Each letter was meticulously carved, each edge carefully smoothed, reflecting the dedication and craftsmanship we bring to every project. This wasn’t just a sign; it was a testament to our passion for woodworking and our commitment to creating pieces that truly matter.
But the story doesn’t end there. With the assistance of the City of Norwood Payneham and St Peters Youth & Arts Program, two local primary Schools were engaged with Local artist Lucinda Penn (@lcnd_) to paint the ‘Gather Round’ lettering we created. We installed the signs on Glen Osmond Terrace and locals loved seeing some colour over the weeks.
The true impact of Gather Round extended far beyond the boundaries of Adelaide Oval. It provided a significant boost to grassroots football clubs across the state. The funds raised from the event, along with government investment, are being used to upgrade local facilities, ensuring the future of the sport at a community level. We like to think our sign played a small part in that, a visual representation of the support flowing through the community.
And perhaps even more importantly, Gather Round ignited a spark in the hearts of young footy fans. Seeing their favorite AFL stars play in their own backyard inspired many young people to get involved in Australian Rules football, contributing to the growth of the sport in the state. Imagine those kids, years from now, remembering the thrill of Gather Round, the excitement of seeing their heroes, and maybe even remembering the sign, a symbol of the day they fell in love with the game.
